My Take
What grabs me about M. Shadows is the sheer range packed into one voice. Coming out of sun-soaked Huntington Beach, he gave Avenged Sevenfold a frontman who could roar and then soar into genuine melody. Being voted third among modern frontmen feels earned to me, because he never settled for aggression alone. I admire artists who refuse to be one trick, and Shadows keeps reinventing what a metal vocalist can do. His willingness to chase theatrical, ambitious songwriting rather than coast is exactly why I keep listening.
