My Take
Margarita Simonyan is a figure I find impossible to ignore, regardless of how one judges her work. Rising from Krasnodar and covering the Second Chechen War as a young reporter, she built herself into one of the most powerful media executives in Russia as editor-in-chief of RT. I will not pretend her role is uncontroversial, because the debate around state media and propaganda is serious and worth taking seriously. Still, as a study in influence, ambition, and the entanglement of media with power, she is genuinely compelling. I watch her career with a mix of unease and real curiosity.
