My Take
Margot Kidder will always be the definitive Lois Lane for me, and not out of mere nostalgia. Her Lois was fast-talking, fearless, and visibly smarter than half the newsroom, a characterization that quietly raised the bar for every screen heroine who followed. Coming from Yellowknife, about as far from Hollywood as the continent allows, she carried a frontier toughness into her work and later into her activism. I also admire how openly she discussed her personal struggles in an era that punished such honesty. The Emmy, Genie, and Saturn awards confirm the range; her candor confirms the character. She deserves far more retrospectives than she gets.
