María Elvira Salazar

María Elvira Salazar's career is a fascinating second act. Spending three decades as a Spanish-language journalist at Telemundo, then winning a U.S. House seat for Florida's 27th district in her late fifties, is no small reinvention. What strikes me is that she spent years asking questions of the powerful and now sits among them, carrying an intimate read on Miami's Latino community into Congress. A Miami native and University of Miami graduate, she's rooted exactly where she serves.
