Mark Green

Mark Green's resume reads like three lives stacked into one, and that's what makes him interesting to me beyond party labels. Before Congress he was an Army flight surgeon, decorated with the Bronze Star and Combat Medical Badge, a man who practiced medicine where lives were genuinely on the line. From the operating tent of war to chairing the House Homeland Security Committee is a remarkable arc. I tend to trust people whose authority is earned in the field before the floor of Congress. He stepped down in 2025, but the doctor-soldier-legislator throughline gives his story a grounded credibility that pure career politicians rarely have.
