Mark Pocan

Mark Pocan strikes me as the kind of politician who is easy to underestimate and hard to dismiss. A former small-business owner from Kenosha who built a long career representing Madison, he carries the texture of someone who has met a payroll rather than just a focus group. I find his steady advocacy as co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus genuinely consistent rather than performative. I tend to trust legislators who keep showing up and doing unglamorous work, and Pocan's durability with his home district suggests voters feel the same way.
