My Take

Mark Wahlberg interests me most as a case study in reinvention. The leap from Marky Mark, a rapper few took seriously, to the actor who anchored Boogie Nights is one of Hollywood's great second acts, and I don't think he gets enough credit for it. What I admire is his refusal to coast: he commits to absurd comedies like Ted with the same intensity he brings to dramas, and his producing career shows real business instinct. He may never be the most versatile actor of his generation, but his discipline and work ethic make him one of the most dependable, and I respect that enormously.
