Masanobu Ando took a newcomer award in 1996 for Takeshi Kitano's Kids Return, about as good a start as a Japanese actor can get. That tells you he can hold a frame without dialogue. These days he directs as well. Past fifty, born in Kawasaki in 1975, and still refusing to settle.
