Matayoshi Katsuki

Katsuki Matayoshi was born in 1990 in Urasoe, Okinawa, made his name with the Chunichi Dragons, later pitched for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, spent part of 2026 with the Leones de Yucatan in the Mexican League, and is now with Oisix Niigata. It is that last item that interests me most. A pitcher with a long Japanese career choosing, in his thirties, to keep going in Mexico is not the easy option. Different language, different climate, different rhythm to the game, and a clubhouse where nothing you did before automatically counts. You rebuild your credibility from scratch. He is a right-handed reliever at 179 cm who came up throwing from an unusual angle, which is exactly the kind of pitcher a bullpen cannot replace, because nobody else on the roster looks like that. Careers in relief are usually short and quietly ended. That he is still taking the ball, after a detour to another continent, is the most eloquent thing on his record.
