My Take
Matt Lauer is, for me, a study in the dual nature of television fame. He climbed from local New York reporting to co-anchoring NBC's Today from 1997 to 2017, a two-decade run that made him a fixture of American mornings and helped the show win multiple Daytime Emmys. There is no denying his on-air skill or the trust he once commanded with millions. Yet his legacy is impossible to discuss without the dramatic fall that ended that run, and that tension is precisely what I find instructive. He embodies how the same spotlight that elevates a broadcaster can, just as completely, expose and undo one.
