Patrick Bruel

Patrick Bruel leaves me deeply conflicted. Born in Algeria in 1959, he became a beloved French singer-songwriter and actor, even a professional poker player, decorated with the National Order of Merit. The talent was undeniable. But in 2026 multiple women accused him of sexual assault and rape, and he was taken into custody. As an editor I cannot celebrate the career without acknowledging that shadow. The courts must establish the facts, yet the coexistence of a luminous artistic legacy and grave allegations in one person is something I refuse to look away from. It is a sobering reminder that acclaim never settles the harder questions.
