Meera Jasmine

Meera Jasmine represents, to me, the quiet backbone of South Indian cinema in the 2000s. Crossing seamlessly between Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films demands real range and nerve, and a National Film Award for Best Actress is no small validation in a fiercely competitive field. What I find compelling is that she seems to have built her reputation on performance rather than publicity. She debuted in Lohithadas's Soothradharan in 2001 and has twice won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress, and that makes me want to root for her career.
