My Take

Shermer is exactly the kind of stubborn skeptic I think modern culture needs more of. Founding Skeptic magazine and the Skeptics Society, he has made a career of applying the brakes to wishful thinking, taking on pseudoscience and supernatural claims head-on. That's unglamorous, often thankless work, yet vital. What I find compelling is his breadth: a historian of science and psychologist who is also a serious cyclist, equally committed to using his mind and his body. Whether you agree with every position or not, his insistence on evidence over comfort commands my respect.
