My Take
Michel Hazanavicius fascinates me because he refuses to be predictable. He built his reputation parodying spy films with the OSS 117 series, then stunned everyone by winning Best Picture and Best Director for The Artist, a silent, black-and-white love letter to early cinema. That leap from broad comedy to elegant homage reveals a genuine cinephile who understands film history deeply enough to reinvent it. The Legion of Honour only underlines his standing in France. I respect directors who treat the past as a living toolkit rather than a museum, and Hazanavicius keeps proving he can surprise audiences who think they have him figured out.
