Michele Merkin

Michele Merkin represents, for me, a particular era of American television charm. Born in Santa Clara County, California, in 1975, she moved from modeling into hosting and acting, and that transition is harder than it looks. Plenty of striking faces never master the live rhythm of a broadcast, yet she carved out a place as a presenter, which tells me she had wit and command of a room beyond her looks. I have a soft spot for polished hosts who make a show run smoothly without stealing it, and even in semi-retirement her poised on-screen presence remains memorable.
