Mick Mars

Mick Mars is the kind of musician I instinctively root for: the quiet craftsman behind the louder personalities. As Mötley Crüe's co-founder and lead guitarist, the oldest of the original four, he supplied the bluesy, aggressive backbone while flashier bandmates grabbed the spotlight. Knowing he played through a debilitating spinal condition for decades, that grit only deepens my respect. His Terre Haute, Indiana roots seem to echo in those earthy riffs. I love performers who hold the foundation rather than chase the glory, the ones a band cannot exist without. Mars is exactly that, and his durability commands genuine admiration.
