My Take

Mikaela Hoover represents my favorite kind of actor: the trusted repertory player. James Gunn has cast her again and again, from Super through Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad to Superman, and directors do not do that out of charity; it means she delivers on set, every single time. What really won me over was learning she voices and performs the face capture for Chopper in Netflix's One Piece, a role demanding pure charm and zero vanity. Character actors like her are the connective tissue of modern blockbusters. She may never headline a franchise, but franchises are quietly better because she is in them.
