My Take
Mike Bost has a background I find unusually grounded for a politician. Before serving as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 12th district since 2015, and after two decades in the Illinois House, he worked as a firefighter in Murphysboro. Setting aside partisan questions, I think there is real value in a lawmaker who once put his life on the line in the field. That firsthand experience of crisis and public service tends to shape a more practical view of policy. To me, the firefighter-to-Congress arc reflects a steady, responsible temperament, and I find that hands-on credibility a meaningful counterweight to career politicians.
