Mizuki Nishimura

Mizuki Nishimura, born in 1977, is a Japanese owarai tarento — a comedian working in the broad Japanese entertainment mode where stand-up chops, variety-show reflexes and on-location reporting all count as the same job. He is known as half of the duo Baikingu with Eiji Kotoge, a name he carries openly in his social media handles; the pair won the King of Conte in 2012. He comes from Hiroshima, trained at the NSC comedy school in Osaka, and his career also tells you something about how Japanese comedy careers work. A performer can sustain decades of visible work — variety panels, travel segments, regional broadcasts — without accumulating the kind of tidy credential list that databases like this one are built to hold. Longevity in that world is a craft of its own: reading a room, absorbing a host's cruelty, making a dull moment watchable. Those skills leave almost no paper trail, which is precisely why the people who have them keep getting called back.
