My Take
Moga Mogami, born in Tokyo in 1989, is best known as a former member of Dempagumi.inc, where her assigned colour was purple and her catchphrase translated to something like "the golden heretic running through the universe." That phrase does more work than any biography could. Japanese idol groups usually smooth their members into complementary shapes; calling someone the group's heretic, and having it fit, is unusual. Since then she has worked as a singer, actor, model and gravure model, a spread that in most careers would read as drift. In her case it reads as one person refusing to be filed under a single heading. What interests me is the durability. Idol careers are short by design, and the ones that continue afterwards usually do so by sanding off whatever made the performer distinctive in the first place. Her path looks like the opposite bet, and it appears to have been the right one.
