Monica Dolan

Monica Dolan is, in my view, one of the finest character actors working in Britain today, and her trophy cabinet only confirms what the screen already tells you. Winning a BAFTA for her chilling turn as Rosemary West and an Olivier for All About Eve marks a rare command of both television and stage. What I respect most is her refusal to trade on celebrity, letting the work speak with unnerving precision instead. Born in Middlesbrough in 1969, she belongs to that quietly formidable tradition of actors discussed through their roles rather than their headlines, and those are the ones I cherish.
