My Take
Pizzolatto won me over with True Detective's first season, a piece of television that felt like Southern Gothic literature given a camera. The humid Louisiana dread, the philosophizing detectives, the bleak poetry, all of it bears his singular fingerprint. I value how he carried real novelistic weight into a medium that too often settles for plot. A New Orleans native who taught fiction before storming TV, he is a divisive writer, and I get why, but his refusal to write the ordinary is exactly what draws me in. I remain curious to see what darkness he conjures next.
