Nick Martínez

Nick Martínez has one of the more interesting paths I've followed in baseball. A Fordham product out of Miami, he reached the majors with Texas, then did something many American players never dare: he moved to Japan and pitched for the Nippon-Ham Fighters and SoftBank Hawks. He rebuilt his game there and came back to MLB with the Padres, Reds, and Rays. A pitcher who keeps reinventing himself across leagues and continents, he embodies a refusal to be defined by one choice. I genuinely respect athletes who go searching the world for where they belong.
