My Take
Nobuo Yamada, who recorded as NoB, was born in Kawachinagano, Osaka, in January 1964 and died in August 2025. He fronted the rock band Make-Up and later worked as part of Project.R, and he was a lyricist, composer, and arranger as well as a vocalist, meaning he could build a song end to end rather than just deliver one. For a certain generation of listeners, that voice arrived through anime and tokusatsu theme songs, which is a strange and enviable form of fame: millions of people know exactly how you sound without necessarily knowing your name. I have a lot of respect for that kind of career. Theme song work is often treated as commercial filler, but it is where an enormous amount of Japanese rock craftsmanship actually lives, and it reaches an audience at the age when music imprints hardest. He spent forty years doing it well, and the songs will outlast the credits.
