O.T. Genasis

O.T. Genasis earns my respect for understanding something many artists overcommit to overthinking: the power of an undeniable hook. Born Odis Flores in Long Beach, California, he turned "CoCo" and "Cut It" into double-platinum cultural moments that lodged themselves in people's heads whether they wanted them there or not. That kind of instinct for a chant-along, body-moving refrain is its own form of genius. Hip-hop is brutally fickle, yet he left a genuine mark on the mid-2010s sound. I stay curious about where that ear for a hook takes him next.
