My Take
What I admire most about Orelsan is that he refused to chase global trends in English. Born in small-town Alençon, he built a national career on the texture and wordplay of his native French, and the state crowned it with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 2022. To me that stubborn loyalty to language is the whole point. He raps, sings, acts and directs, but the through-line is a craftsman who would rather be authentic than universal. That is a rare and quietly courageous way to make art, and I find it far more interesting than easy crossover ambition.
