My Take

Pak Kwang-ryong interests me precisely because North Korean footballers so rarely get to test themselves abroad. Born in Pyongyang and listed at 188 centimetres, he plays as a forward, and the simple fact of a striker from one of the world's most closed football systems making a name for himself feels significant to me. I tend to read his career through that lens of scarcity and opportunity. There is not a lot of public detail to go on, which is part of the story, but I find myself rooting for the kind of player who has to cross so many borders just to play the game at a higher level.
