My Take

Parviz Meshkatian is a discovery I'm genuinely glad to have made. Born in 1955 in Nishapur, the very town that gave us the poet Khayyam, he became a composer, musician, researcher, and university lecturer, the full profile of a serious cultural figure. That lineage of place alone hints he was never going to be ordinary. He devoted himself to deepening Persian classical music, and his death in 2009 left a real void in Iran's musical heritage. I'm moved by artists who turn a nation's inner voice into sound, and quietly, from afar, he has my deep respect.
