Patty Loveless

Patty Loveless is country music in its truest, unvarnished form. Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, and raised by a coal-miner father, she sings with an ache and a backbone that simply cannot be manufactured in a studio. I love that her path was no overnight fairy tale: she signed in Nashville in 1985, struggled through early flops, then broke through on raw talent with that George Jones cover. She never chased trends or pop crossover gloss. For me she represents the dignity of the working-class voice, and that authenticity is exactly why her records still feel like honest testimony.
