Paul D'Amour

As Tool's original bassist, Paul D'Amour shaped a sound I still consider foundational to heavy music. That aggressive picked Rickenbacker tone on Undertow gave the band an architecture before they became the cerebral giants they are now. What I respect is his refusal to fade out after leaving such an iconic group, instead carrying his low end into Ministry years later. Bass is the least glamorous instrument and the most essential, and players who commit to that role for decades earn my deep admiration. He's proof that the foundation matters as much as the spotlight.
