My Take
Mazursky is one of those directors whose name slipped out of casual conversation but whose films still feel astonishingly alive. He had a gift for catching ordinary people at their most vulnerable and funny at the same time, and An Unmarried Woman remains a quietly radical portrait of a woman rebuilding her life. I love that he kept acting in other people's movies too, never precious about the work. He charted the cultural anxieties of his era better than almost anyone, and I think he's overdue for rediscovery by younger cinephiles.
