My Take
Paz Vega has the elastic range I always value in a performer. She broke through on the comedy series 7 vidas, then moved fluidly between daring Spanish cinema like Sex and Lucia and Hollywood fare such as Spanglish, never trapped in a single register. The Goya recognition, the Trophée Chopard, and her hometown honor in Andalusia all signal respect earned on both sides of the Atlantic. What interests me most is her recent shift toward directing and producing, refusing to stay merely in front of the lens. She carries that distinctly Spanish quality of holding shadow and fire in the same expression.
