My Take
What fascinates me about Phil McGraw is the leap from clinical psychologist to one of America's most recognizable television figures. Oprah Winfrey gave him a platform, but you do not hold an audience for two decades on her name alone, that takes a real instinct for cutting to the heart of a problem. People mock the blunt, sometimes preachy style, yet I think there is genuine substance behind it, a guy who genuinely believes plain talk can change lives. His later turns toward writing and politics show a restless, multi-track mind. Love him or not, he reads people fast.
