My Take
What I admire most about Rachel Bloom is her refusal to separate the silly from the serious. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend could have been a one-joke premise, but she turned it into a four-season meditation on mental health, delivered through showtunes that parody everything from classic Broadway to nineties R&B. Winning a Golden Globe and an Emmy for a show that openly discusses therapy and diagnosis is no small feat on network television. She strikes me as a creator who works from honesty first and craft second, which is exactly why the craft lands. Whatever she writes next, I am watching.
