Rajeev Ram

Rajeev Ram is my kind of champion. Doubles is the unglamorous, brutally technical corner of tennis, and reaching world number one there, with a stack of Australian Open, US Open and mixed titles, takes more than a big serve from that 193 cm frame. It demands chemistry, patience and a generous temperament toward a partner. The Denver native and Illinois alum built his greatness through craft and consistency rather than hype, peaking long after most would. I have deep respect for athletes who win quietly and let the trophy cabinet do the talking.
