My Take

To me, Ranking Roger was the joyful pulse of British 2 Tone ska. What I admire most is how he carried genuine social awareness inside music that simply made people dance. Coming out of Birmingham's working-class streets, his toasting with the Beat and later General Public felt both effortless and purposeful, bridging cultures at a tense moment. Losing him in 2019 stung, yet his energy still leaps out of every recording. I think of him less as a nostalgia act and more as proof that politics and pure fun can share the same beat without either feeling diluted.
