Ranking Roger

To me, Ranking Roger was the joyful pulse of British 2 Tone ska. What I admire most is how he carried genuine social awareness inside music that simply made people dance. Coming out of the Small Heath area of Birmingham, his toasting with the Beat and later General Public felt both effortless and purposeful, bridging cultures at a tense moment. Losing him in 2019 stung, yet his energy still leaps out of every recording. I think of him less as a nostalgia act and more as proof that politics and pure fun can share the same beat without either feeling diluted.
