My Take

Rekha is the kind of performer who makes me believe longevity is itself an art form. More than two hundred Hindi films, a National Film Award, Filmfare honors, and a mononym that needs no introduction. Yet what strikes me is the range hiding inside the glamour: she has been recognized for leading roles and even for playing a villain. From Silsila to Khoon Bhari Maang, she kept reinventing what an Indian leading lady could be, decade after decade. Few stars anywhere have held the screen for fifty years without becoming a nostalgia act. Rekha did, and that sustained command is what I find genuinely awe-inspiring.
