Rick Nowels

Rick Nowels is the kind of unseen force I find endlessly fascinating. He doesn't stand on stage, yet his songs have sold over 250 million copies and he's co-written more than 90 hit singles. The 2020 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame was simply overdue recognition. Thinking about the moody worlds he helped build, like Lana Del Rey's, I'm struck by how powerful behind-the-scenes work can be. I love quiet geniuses who choose to leave songs rather than chase fame. Nowels can shift the temperature of a room with a single track, and that's a rare gift.
