Riddick Bowe is genuinely one of the most underrated heavyweight champions in boxing history, and I say that as someone who thinks the early 90s heavyweight scene was criminally stacked. This guy came out of Brooklyn with a 6-foot-5 frame, climbed all the way to an Olympic silver medal in Seoul in 1988, and then turned pro and became undisputed heavyweight champion by 1992 — holding the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts simultaneously. The Ring magazine named him Fighter of the Year that same year, and he earned it. His trilogy with Evander Holyfield is some of the best heavyweight boxing ever put on tape, pure chess matches wrapped in ferocity. The fact that he's in the International Boxing Hall of Fame (2015) feels like the bare minimum recognition. A Brooklyn kid who made it all the way to the top and fought like he had something to prove every single time he stepped through the ropes.
