My Take
Robbie Robertson left a deep mark on music, and his 2023 passing still feels like a loss. As Bob Dylan's lead guitarist and the primary songwriter of the Band, he shaped a whole strand of American roots music from north of the border. What moves me most is his late chapter: scoring Scorsese films and winning a film-music award in the very year he died, still creating until the end. The honors, the Order of Canada, the Walk of Fame, are deserved, but what I mourn is simply that there will be no new sounds from him. A storyteller in melody, gone too soon.
