Roberto Osuna

Signed out of Mexico by the Toronto Blue Jays at sixteen, Roberto Osuna was closing major league games while most players his age were still in the low minors. At 188 cm he had the frame and the fastball for the ninth inning, and he handled it in Toronto and later in Houston. Closing is a strange job. It looks like the glamour role, but it is really the one where a single pitch can erase everything that came before it, night after night. Now he pitches for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, part of a pattern that no longer surprises anyone: proven major league arms taking over the late innings in Japan. In 2018 he was arrested in Toronto on an assault charge and suspended for 75 games under MLB's domestic violence policy, and any honest account has to say so rather than skip past it. Held alongside that, the record on the mound is what it is, and it is genuinely accomplished.
