My Take

Bumblefoot is a guitarist's guitarist who somehow ended up in one of the biggest rock bands on earth. His solo records show a player with absurd technical range and a genuinely weird, playful sense of humor, the fretless guitar runs are jaw-dropping but never just showing off. Stepping into Guns N' Roses during the long Chinese Democracy era was a thankless gig, and I think he handled an impossible spotlight with class. Sons of Apollo let him cut loose with peers who match his level. He's the rare shredder who clearly cares more about the song than the spotlight.

Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (born September 25, 1969) is an American guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer from Brooklyn, New York. A virtuoso known for his fretless and double-neck guitar work, he released a string of solo instrumental and rock albums before serving as lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses from 2006 to 2014. He is also a founding member of the supergroup Sons of Apollo and has worked extensively as a producer and session musician.
