My Take
Ron Ely will always be Tarzan to me, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Born in Hereford, Texas in 1938, he brought a rare blend of physical presence and easy charisma to that NBC series, then carried it into Doc Savage and even into hosting the Miss America pageant. What I admire most is that he refused to be only a leading man: he became a published novelist too, which tells you he was curious about more than the camera. He passed in 2024, but performers who fully inhabit an iconic role the way he did never really leave the screen.
