My Take

What draws me to Ronnie Barker is the leap of faith at the start: a bank clerk who walked away from security to chase laughs. That gamble built The Two Ronnies and Porridge, cornerstones of British comedy, and made him a master of wordplay still quoted today. He wrote as well as performed, proof that his comedy ran on intelligence, not just timing. The OBE was well earned. He passed in 2005, but that particular brand of gentlemanly mischief doesn't age. To me he embodies the wit and craft of classic English humour at its most polished.
