My Take
What draws me to Roy Dupuis is the road he didn't take. Born in New Liskeard, Ontario, he could have chased the Hollywood spotlight after La Femme Nikita made him a recognizable face, yet his real body of work lives in Quebec's French-language cinema. I admire actors who build their legacy in their own language and culture rather than diluting it for a wider market. The fact that he stepped behind the camera as a director too suggests a restless, craft-first sensibility. There's a quiet gravity to him that I find more compelling than any blockbuster charisma.
