Ryūzō Anzai

Ryūzō Anzai is one of those rare guys who was good enough to build a career as a player, then turned out to be even better once he picked up a clipboard. A Fukushima kid who sharpened his game at Takushoku University, he spent the best years of his playing career as a guard for what's now the Utsunomiya Brex — a blue-collar, defense-first role that clearly shaped how he'd think about the game later. When he stepped into head coaching he didn't come in soft: the Brex under his watch were disciplined, physical, hard to crack. Winning the B.League championship is no fluke in a league that's gotten genuinely competitive, and doing it as a young coach earns real respect in my book. Whether you find that energy motivating or suffocating probably depends which side of the whistle you're on.
