My Take
Santiago Segura wins me over before a single film: a twelve-year-old turning a Super-8 camera into a calling is the purest kind of origin story. Winning Goya Awards for both Best New Actor and Best New Director proves he is the real thing on either side of the lens. There is genuine nerve in committing fully to the crude, gleeful chaos of the Torrente films; that is entertainment without apology. Add his life as a comic-book collector, and you get a creator where fanboy obsession and professional craft coexist. He is exactly the kind of unpretentious maker I find irresistible.
