My Take
Bessent fascinates me as a rare crossover: a trader who now has to live with the macro consequences he once bet on. Cutting his teeth at Soros Fund Management, then running his own global macro firm, gave him an instinct for how markets punish bad policy, something most Treasury secretaries learn the hard way. Being the first openly gay person to hold the office adds historical weight, but what I will be watching is more practical: whether a man trained to profit from government mistakes can avoid making them himself. The poacher-turned-gamekeeper story rarely gets a test case this clean, and I find that genuinely compelling.
