My Take

Scott Steiner is one of those guys who started out as a legitimately great technical wrestler — his early tag team run with his brother Rick in the late 80s and early 90s showed real athleticism and creativity — and then somehow reinvented himself into "Big Poppa Pump," this jacked, trash-talking, chainmail-wearing wild man who became one of WCW's most entertaining acts. I genuinely think that transformation is underrated as a piece of pro wrestling character work. He was never going to win a diplomacy award, but his promos were must-see TV, and the man could absolutely go in the ring when he needed to. His TNA run kept him in the spotlight well past the point most guys would have hung it up, which says something about his staying power.
