Scott Travis

Scott Travis is exactly the kind of drummer I gravitate toward: thunderous yet precise, the steel spine behind some heavy bands. Holding down Judas Priest for decades is no small feat, and his work with Racer X, Thin Lizzy, and Elegant Weapons shows how widely his power and reliability are valued. What strikes me is the contrast between his explosive double-kick attack and the disciplined consistency underneath it. Front men get the glory, but a metal band lives or dies on its rhythmic foundation, and Travis has been an immovable one for years. I find that quiet authority deeply impressive.
